Thanks for checking out our Born To Backpack project! We have received a ton of support from friends and family all over the world to get to where we are, and now we are very excited to start sharing our work.
Like many people, we have a passion for travelling. We believe that travelling can have a powerful positive influence on a person's attitude, understanding of the world, and individual potential that cannot be recreated by simply staying at home. So we have set out to create a line of eco-friendly t-shirts with designs that inspire people to travel more and that challenge them to become active global citizens.
We have some awesome designs so far - which is why we are here on Kickstarter - to bring you these awesome tee's. [BTB] shirts are made from 100% organic cotton and/or recycled polyester. They have been made to be buttery soft with a super comfy fit. Simply put, these tees represent your passion for world travel and your commitment to mindful consumption.
With your support, we will be able to launch our full men's and women's t-shirt line this fall, and you will be among the first to ROCK one of these tee's!

With each of our designs, we wanted to create a tee that makes you feel good inside, and that makes you smile when you think about how awesome our world and its people are. Below are the designs that we want to launch with this fall and a brief description on a few of our tee's.
Stamp My Passport: A map of the world made from passport stamps from over 50 countries!
Send Me A Postcard: A map of South America made from postcards from the various countries in South America.
How Do You Say "Hello": A shirt that says Hello in more than 30 different languages (a female version with a lady backpacker will be available too).
All the t-shirts shown below are available for this Kickstarter campaign! We have an "Essential" tee line that features our unique travel inspired shirts, along with our "Official" tee line if you just want to show that you are born to backpack.
If our project is funded, full size images of each design, available color options, and a shirt fit guide will be sent to each backer. We will ask for your shirt/color preference, shipping address, and shirt size at the end of the campaign. Our goal is to bring you sustainable tee’s made from organic and recycled materials that reduce our carbon footprint while still being produced to the highest standards here in the USA. From the water-based inks we use to print our shirts, all the way down to the recycled mailers you will receive your shirts in, we are making every effort to bring you an eco friendly product that you can stand behind.
Born to Backpack is the result of an idea that Alex had back in 2007 while travelling through China. Yep, it has taken a few years to turn the idea into a reality. Over the years, the idea has taken many shapes, but the one thing that has remained constant was his desire to inspire people to travel more and become engaged global citizens.
Alex later moved back home to Los Angeles where he then met Crystal in a beach volleyball club. They quickly realized that they both share a deep love for travelling, and the ensuing collaboration and energy they put towards the project finally brought Born to Backpack to life.
"Tripp" is an Old English name for someone who is a traveller, and so it was the perfect name for the [BTB] turtle. So why a turtle? Much like a backpacker, a turtle is a slow-moving peaceful creature that wanders the 7 seas and roams 6 of the 7 continents by land. Additionally like a backpacker, a turtle carries everything it needs on its back.
We put a map of the world on the turtle's shell to represent that we carry the future of the world on our backs. In many cultures of the world, a turtle represents longevity, wisdom, and environmentalism, which are all values that Born to Backpack stands for as a company.
We have worked very hard to get this far. And along the way we had the option to choose the easy way, buy cheaper shirts that are made oversea's and out source production to other countries. But we wanted to bring you an eco friendly product that you can stand behind made right here in the good old USA.
On top of what we have personally invested to get this far it's going to take another $8,000 to bring these awesome shirts to life. Here's what we need the cash for:
